WEEK 2 6162: SHARING WEB RESOURCES

Save the Children is a foundation that I chose to further learn more about, due to the awesome work that they have done and try to get others to help with, so far, for children all over the world. It is not just for children in foreign countries but they care for children in the United States, as well.

Their focus is to “give children in the United States and around the world what every child deserves – a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. When disaster strikes, we put children’s needs first. We advocate for and achieve large-scale change for children. They save children’s lives” (Save the Children website, 2014).

They are discussing so much on this website. One area of the website is talking about how Lassie leads children to safety. Another story is about the children in Syria and how war is hurting them terribly. “Since the beginning of the conflict, children have been the forgotten victims of Syria's horrific war. Today, over 5 million children are in need of assistance, including over 1 million children who have sought refuge in neighboring countries. These children are at risk of becoming a "lost generation" and cannot be ignored. They are 1 in every 3 child, who are abused physically every day, 5 million need assistance and 7000 have been killed to this date” (Save the Children, 2014). It is a very SAD situation.

  1. Nakita,
What a great organization, I appreciate the fact that the organization saves children’s lives globally. Not only do all children deserve a healthy start, it is their God given right! Unfortunately the children of Syria are the lost generation that nobody seems to care about; we need more organizations like Save the Children if we are going to succeed in truly saving our children. Today’s children are tomorrow’s future if they can survive! I would like to travel around the world and see what educational support systems are offered in different countries, I would also like to see if there are more differences or similarities between the education systems.

  2. This is sad. I found an article by Unicef that was written in 1996 about the State of the World's Children. http://www.unicef.org/sowc96/intro.htm
This article discuses the mortality rate of children. As professional early childhood teachers, we have a responsibility to learn about what is going on around the world and to become advocates for children.

  3. Save the Children is a great organization. Even in my country, Nepal, we have the branch office and it helps poor children of Nepal getting help. I am amazed by the facts that you provided such: they are 1 in every 3 child, who are abused physically every day, 5 million need assistance and 7000 have been killed to this date” (Save the Children, 2014). It is indeed very SAD situation for mankind. Thank you for sharing this important organization.

  4. Nakita,
The Save the Children website is going to be very interesting to look through. I have always been intrigued by education in developing countries. When my husband was deployed to Afghanistan, his group had a chance to visit some villages, and he sent back pictures of the children. I cannot imagine the stress and pain these children felt and how much of a disruption war has played on their lives.
Thanks for selecting this as a resource!

  5. I really did enjoy reading your post, and found the site that you decided to write about to be very helpful. I like the fact that their main purpose is to ensure all kids all over have a healthy start from the beginning. This was a great resource and I found it to be very helpful.
