For
this assignment, I thoroughly enjoyed taking each of the assessments. I always
am open to learning more
about me than my own perception. By allowing others to
give me they feedback through those quizzes, it did
open my mind. We need to
take more assessments in different areas that will make us more operative in
the
long run. As leaders to others, we need to have all bases touched in order
to lead correctly. Of course, I am
not saying that everything will go perfectly
but we definitely would be on the right track. Certain people are
great at
leading and being effective to getting things accomplished in society or in
organizations. I definitely
want to be a part of that group.
One
thing that I cannot say surprised me too much because I kind of know it is
true. I saw how others think I
do have more issues with speaking out or
conveying my thoughts effectively to others in groups. I do know
that if push
turn into a shove, I will handle the moment. I always do, no matter how nervous
I am in the
situation but I do want to be more confident in what I am trying to
convey to others. I feel that I have to be
more knowledgeable about certain
issues in order for me to be more confident. When I do not know what I
will say
or it is a topic that I have little knowledge about and I have to speak in
front of others, I do get
nervous. I do notice that if I know what I am
speaking on, I do not feel nervous and most of the time I am
the one to speak
up before anyone else in the group(s). Guess I need to be in more situations
and study
more on each topic that I have to discuss with others. I also believe
that it takes an individual dealing with
certain areas and gaining more and
more experience before others will listen truthfully in any situation, in my
opinion. Personally and professionally, we all should understand ourselves completely before we try and
lead others.
Nakita,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed taking the assessments as well; I think self-reflection is so important for growth and self-improvement. It is always positive to get constructive feedback from others regarding how other people perceive you. One thing that I found helpful to becoming more confident when speaking in front of others is to join the local Toastmasters organization; Toastmasters will definitely help you become a better speaker in any situation. You can Google Toastmasters to find out if they have a local chapter in your area. Another thing that I found helpful was to practice talking in front of the mirror; it might sound weird or strange but it really helps; you can see yourself as others do, when we speak in front of people or in groups there is no mirror so we have no idea how we look or how others see us. I’m telling you practicing in front of a mirror will build your self-confidence; you know the old saying “practice makes perfect” try it and I think you will be amazed at how much it helps. I have a lot of confidence when speaking in front of others and I always practice in the mirror; if I am not prepared and I am asked to speak I am comfortable speaking because I now have the confidence to speak anytime or anywhere. I am always nervous at first, but once I get started the nerves go away. I will always seek to find better ways to become a competent communicator. I believe to become a truly competent communicator is a lifelong journey because there are always new practices and skills to learn.
Hi Nakita
ReplyDeleteI think everyone gets nervous when the have to speak publicly to others. The person speaking also has to be a little nervous. They also have to be able to respond to the group. In the education field, we have to be able to advocate for our children. We will get better when it comes to public speaking it comes in time. I believe this class will give us the support we need to become confident in speaking publicly. I agree with you we must understand ourselves completely before we try to lead others.

Nakita,
ReplyDeleteThis was an excellent assignment to not only reflect on how we see and feel about ourselves, but how others see how we communicate so that we make a comparison between perspectives.
I also get nervous when speaking in groups of peers. I think that I have learned to accept my nervousness and to let my passions speak for themselves (when it comes to the education).
You have made an excellent point by stating that competent communication is a lifelong journey. Just as we are lifelong learners, our communications with others should also constantly grow and improve.
I enjoyed doing these assessments too! It was really interesting to see that others view me as I view myself. These type of assessments can most definitely help one see their weak and their strong points. If one take the information she gains from these assessments, then this will help them become a better communicator.
