I have many people that I could put on this list but
here are five:
My mother, Virginia
Moore, was a major element in my development because she was always
providing everything that I needed at any time. She is still such a big help
with my children. She is there to give advice or just to talk. I really love
her.
My big sister, Melba
Moore, which is ten years older, was a big influence because she always
looked out for me and tried to tell me what was right and wrong. She was very
protective of me and she still is to this day.
My dad, Milton
Younger, was very helpful and provided for me. I was able to get great
advice about relationships, money or whatever was bothering me at the time. I
really enjoyed our talks. He would always keep me laughing. We actually gained
weight together and lost weight together. Lately, He has been suffering from Alzheimer’s
and that has been a hurtful situation but he is such a great dad. He was such a
big part of my life and still is to this day.
My cousin, Clara
Hicks, who was 92 when she passed, who was my cousin grandmother. She
taught us how to grow and pick corn, pears, tomatoes, peas and cucumbers. She
taught us how to preserve pears and apples. She also taught me how to make
pickles from cucumbers, too. Every Saturday, we would go and clean the church,
which was started by her husband. She really instilled in me how a home should
look –which is a reflection on how I feel about myself. My three-year-older cousin lived with her and
that was why I was at their home a lot. She was like a sister to me. We, basically,
grew up together as sisters. Cousin Clara was a huge influence in my life but
she passed some years ago.
My uncle, Sylvester
Lewis (Tot), was such a big
influence in my life. He was my great- aunt’s husband–which made him my
great-uncle. We would go to the pasture to check on his cows and bulls. I really loved it because it was so peaceful.
We would also go to auctions to sell and buy cows. While taking me to school,
he would always stop by Burger King to get me breakfast each time. He passed
away in 1996 but I wish he were still here.
My family would always encourage me to go to school
and become whatever I wanted to be and to care for others. I love each one of
them for being there for me and telling me stories, sharing laughs, and
teaching me traditions that I use today. Family is wonderful!
Thank you, Nakita for introducting us to your family. What a tribute you gave to them and continue to do. They must be extremely proud of you continuing your education.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a great childhood. You had the love and support from many people. I especially can relate to the picking corn and peas. Growing up my mom had a garden next to our home, the neighbor always kept it planted with all types of vegetables, and of course....we would have to pick veggies all the time. I hated it, lol.....however, I did love the finished results. Nothing like a good home cooked meal!
ReplyDeleteHi Nakita, I can hear the honor and pride with which you share about all the significant persons who took part in shaping your future. It is so wonderful to have family that really care and stay connected through thick and thin.I like the relationship you had with miss Clara, she sounded like a real nice and caring cousin. She taught you lessons for life, its a true blessing. The times with your uncle sounds so awesome, you had a really interesting and fulfilling childhood. Those are memories that are always in your heart,
ReplyDeleteThe lessons you learn from family and relatives, even friends when we are children, are invaluable in the shaping of the person we become in adulthood.
Hi Nakita,
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to have such loving family. Families that stick together tend to have more rewards at the end .Nice family picture great glancing at such a large family. We all have those indivuduals that have nutured us and guided us to be great individuals.
Nakita I enjoyed reading your blog. It is truly a blessing to have a warm, nurturing family. I am thankful for the family and the closeness that we have. My great grandmother and grandmother did a wonderful job of making sure that we were very close to one another. Since they have passed away, we carry on the traditions that they started. There is nothing like family. I wish you the best in your endeavors!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are a country girl! I am a country girl, but live in the city now. I learned how to pickle pears, pickles, and pretty much everything under the sun. My dad and I use to go to the pasture to tend to our horses and pigs. It seems like you had an amazing childhood with caring and supportive people. You are right, family is wonderful!
