Here are a few quotes from some wonderful people:
Children need play to learn
-Deborah Leong
When kids are in leagues and lessons, they are usually being regulated by adults - which means they are not able to practice regulating themselves...as a result, children are not developing the self-regulation skills that they used to develop.
-Deborah Leong
The art of creation is older that the art of killing.
-Edward Zigler
So I have a built-in empathy for poor children, as well as a deep belief, based on my own life, that just because you are poor that does not mean you are inadequate.
-Edward Zigler
I wanted to fix all the injustices in the world and I wanted to do that by teaching children.
-Louise Derman-Sparks
I am not here to save the world; I am here to make a difference.
-Renatta Cooper
Education opens up the world to you.
-Renatta Cooper
Choose a career you love, give it the best there is in you, seize your opportunities and be a member of the team.
-Melchor Lim
I absolutely love the first quote. Children do need play to learn! It's just a shame right now that once children get into "big" school, there is no longer time for play. Thanks for the quote. We as EC people need to always remember it.
ReplyDeleteI love that you chose a comment from Louise Derman-Sparks. I chose the beginning of the same thought, as I described what circumstances motivated my to originally enter the field of Early Childhood Education. Ms. Derman-Sparks is an inspiration to the field. She speaks from the heart, without prejudice or bias. She would be a blessing to any child she encounters.

ReplyDeleteThanks for introducing Edward Zigler, I read his Bio and was amazed by his contributions to early childhood. I see that he is highly respected and colorfully decorated. He is an inspiration to me, I also truly believe that quote. I have often told my kids and their parents that their potential is not tied to their financial status.I have been rewarded by the great achievement of some of those families.
