Wk 4: Words of Inspiration and Motivation

Here are a few quotes from some wonderful people:

Children need play to learn
                                                    -Deborah Leong

When kids are in leagues and lessons, they are usually being regulated by adults - which means they are not able to practice regulating themselves...as a result, children are not developing the self-regulation skills that they used to develop.
                                                    -Deborah Leong

The art of creation is older that the art of killing.
                                                    -Edward Zigler

So I have a built-in empathy for poor children, as well as a deep belief, based on my own life, that just because you are poor that does not mean you are inadequate.
                                                   -Edward Zigler

I wanted to fix all the injustices in the world and I wanted to do that by teaching children.
                                                   -Louise Derman-Sparks

I am not here to save the world; I am here to make a difference.
                                                   -Renatta Cooper

Education opens up the world to you.
                                                  -Renatta Cooper

Choose a career you love, give it the best there is in you, seize your opportunities and be a member of the team.
                                                  -Melchor  Lim

PERSONAL CHILDHOOD WEB

Some of my family but definitely not all of them. I am way in the back.. barely see my eyes :)

I have many people that I could put on this list but here are five:

My mother, Virginia Moore, was a major element in my development because she was always providing everything that I needed at any time. She is still such a big help with my children. She is there to give advice or just to talk. I really love her.

My big sister, Melba Moore, which is ten years older, was a big influence because she always looked out for me and tried to tell me what was right and wrong. She was very protective of me and she still is to this day.

My dad, Milton Younger, was very helpful and provided for me. I was able to get great advice about relationships, money or whatever was bothering me at the time. I really enjoyed our talks. He would always keep me laughing. We actually gained weight together and lost weight together. Lately, He has been suffering from Alzheimer’s and that has been a hurtful situation but he is such a great dad. He was such a big part of my life and still is to this day.

My cousin, Clara Hicks, who was 92 when she passed, who was my cousin grandmother. She taught us how to grow and pick corn, pears, tomatoes, peas and cucumbers. She taught us how to preserve pears and apples. She also taught me how to make pickles from cucumbers, too. Every Saturday, we would go and clean the church, which was started by her husband. She really instilled in me how a home should look –which is a reflection on how I feel about myself.  My three-year-older cousin lived with her and that was why I was at their home a lot. She was like a sister to me. We, basically, grew up together as sisters. Cousin Clara was a huge influence in my life but she passed some years ago.

My uncle, Sylvester Lewis (Tot), was such a big influence in my life. He was my great- aunt’s husband–which made him my great-uncle. We would go to the pasture to check on his cows and bulls.  I really loved it because it was so peaceful. We would also go to auctions to sell and buy cows. While taking me to school, he would always stop by Burger King to get me breakfast each time. He passed away in 1996 but I wish he were still here.

My family would always encourage me to go to school and become whatever I wanted to be and to care for others. I love each one of them for being there for me and telling me stories, sharing laughs, and teaching me traditions that I use today. Family is wonderful!
